Is het mogelijk om death metal louter op basis van de vocalen te waarderen? Metalheads zelf concentreren zich doorgaans op gitaren en beschouwen de zang eerder als sfeerverhogend extraatje dan als de cruciale factor die het in 'gewone' popmuziek vaak is. Niettemin draait het bij de herrezen Nederlandse oerdeathband Asphyx echt maar om één ding: het strottenhoofd van Martin van Drunen. Naar Van Drunen kan je echter probleemloos uren luisteren. Er is al een Duitse band naar hem vernoemd, maar geef die man alsjeblieft snel een standbeeld.

Mucky Pup heeft inmiddels een aantal try-out shows gedaan in de US maar ook op het With Full Force festival in Duitsland. In een afgeladen volle tent speelde de band een best of set. Op 27 juni draaide Miss Djax (Sas voor bekenden) op het Awakenings festival in Halfweg. Zoals alleen Miss Djax dit kan, opent ze spectaculair. Haar Mix van de jaren negentig plaat Dominator zette de zaal in vuur en vlam.

Destine, de Nederlandse koningen van Youtube en punkpop, speelde afgelopen juni in de 3fm studio’s hun single In Your Arms. De boys staan dit jaar ook op Lowlands, wat kan betekenen dat de band op de rand staat van een internationale doorbraak.
