De Nederlandse drag scene groeit hard, en onder queer jongeren is de interesse groot. Maar hoe begin je nou echt, als je jezelf wilt ontwikkelen als drag queen, king, royalty of thing? 

Drag is het (vaak uitvergroot) presenteren van gender – vrouwelijkheid, mannelijkheid, of iets daartussenin – in allerlei vormen van performance. Deze workshop is voor iedereen die al een eerste start heeft gemaakt met drag performance. Je hebt bijvoorbeeld al een workshop gevolgd, hebt een idee voor je drag alter ego, of hebt misschien al meegedaan aan een open mic. Maar wat is de volgende stap? Hoe train je jezelf als performer? Waar kun je oefenen als aanstormend drag talent? En wát ontwikkel je eigenlijk, waar moet je op letten, en wat zijn de valkuilen?

Daarom presenteert Dynamo: de Drag Performance Intensive!

Een hele dag lang volg je 3 verschillende workshops, gegeven door ervaren performers uit de lokale queer scene.

Shahin Damka

Shahin is danser, choreograaf en docent. Hij is een gerenommeerde waacker en voguer, die nationaal en internationaal actief is. Hij is een community builder die heeft bijgedragen aan de ontwikkeling van de ballroom- en waacking scene in Nederland.

Hoe gebruik je je lichaam, je gezicht, beweging en dans? Van de manier waarop je staat tot de manier waarop je kijkt en de manier waarop je beweegt, alles heeft intentie. Hier maken we gebruik van in de workshop. Welke emoties kun je gebruiken? Hoe kun je ervoor zorgen dat je deze intenties overdraagt naar een publiek? Hoe spelen ‘presence’, expressie en connectie met een publiek een rol in het optreden? We gaan dus niet alleen aan de slag met wat je doet, maar HOE je dit doet en wat dit voor een publiek kan betekenen.

Antoine Panaché

Antoine Panaché is een Eindhovense drag king. Hij presenteert zich vaak als een gentleman, zoals je ze tegenkomt in oude foto’s en stille films. Hij is intens, flamboyant en, ondanks het feit dat hij natuurlijk EEN ECHTE MAN is, een tikje androgyn.

Antoine Panaché werd in 2013 ‘geboren’ en heeft door het hele land en daarbuiten opgetreden. Naast performer is hij ook community builder en leraar.

Antoine legt in zijn drag king workshop (eveneens te volgen bij Dynamo) de nadruk op het vinden van je ‘alter ego’. Deze workshop gaat een stap verder: Hoe zou dit alter ego bewegen? Hoe perform je als je alter ego, maar toch als jezelf? Als drag king zijnde gaat zijn performance voorbij ‘performing masculinity’. Gender is fluid! Hoewel Antoine tips & tricks deelt die toepasbaar zijn op het opbouwen van een performance als drag king, bevraagt hij dingen die toepasbaar zijn voor IEDERE drag performer. Wie ben je? Hoe sta je? Hoe breng je over wat je wil zeggen?

Cindy van der Loan

Cindy van der Loan is een dragartiest, producent en community builder uit Eindhoven. Ze treedt sinds 2017 op en combineert in haar werk performance, educatie en culturele productie, met een sterke focus op het creëren van toegankelijke podia voor drag, queer expressie en opkomend talent. Cindy zet drag in als een sociale, artistieke en maatschappelijke kunstvorm die verankerd is in de stad Eindhoven.

Tijdens Cindy’s workshop gaan we visueel op verkenning met jouw drag-personage. Je kan bij nul beginnen of verder bouwen op wat je al hebt gecreëerd. Aan de hand van haar, make-up, mode en lichaamsvorming onderzoeken we hoe we jouw drag-personage tot leven kunnen brengen en bespreken we de bijbehorende technieken. Voel je vrij om moodboards, inspiratiemateriaal, kostuums, knutselmaterialen, pruiken, beeldmateriaal en/of make-up mee te nemen die je al hebt, hier kunnen we tijdens de workshop mee aan de slag!

The Dutch drag scene is growing fast, and interest among queer youth is high. But how do you actually get started when you want to develop yourself as a drag queen, king, royalty, or thing?

Drag is the (often exaggerated) presentation of gender – femininity, masculinity, or something in between – in all kinds of performance. This workshop is for anyone who has already made a first start with drag performance. Maybe you’ve followed a workshop, have an idea for your drag alter ego, or have even performed at an open mic. But what’s the next step? How do you train yourself as a performer? Where can you practice as an up-and-coming drag talent? And what exactly are you developing – what should you pay attention to, and what are the pitfalls?

That’s why Dynamo presents: the Drag Performance Intensive!

Shahin Damka

Shahin is a dancer, choreographer and teacher. He is a well known Waacker and Voguer, recognized both nationally and internationally, and is a community builder that helped shape the Ballroom and Waacking Scene in the Netherlands.

How do you use your body, your face, movement, and dance? From the way you are standing to the way you look and the way you move, everything has intention. We make use of this in the workshop. Which emotions can you use? How can you ensure that you convey these intentions to an audience? How do ‘presence’, expression, and connection with an audience play a role in the performance? So, we will not only work on what you do, but HOW you do it and what this can mean for an audience.

Antoine Panaché

Antoine Panaché is a drag king based in Eindhoven. He often presents himself as a gentleman as seen in old photos and silent films. He is intense, flamboyant and, despite the fact that he is of course ALL MAN, a bit androgynous. 

Antoine was ‘born’ in 2013 and has performed throughout the Netherlands and beyond. Apart from a performer, he is a community builder and educator.

In his drag king workshop (also taught at Dynamo), Antoine emphasizes finding your ‘alter ego’. This workshop goes a step further: How would this alter ego move? How do you perform as your alter ego, yet still as yourself? As a drag king, his performance goes beyond ‘performing masculinity’. Gender is fluid! Although Antoine shares tips and tricks applicable to building a performance as a drag king, he questions things that are applicable to EVERY drag performer. Who are you? How do you stand? How do you convey what you want to say?

Cindy van der Loan

Cindy van der Loan is a drag artist, producer, and community builder based in Eindhoven. Performing since 2017, her practice combines performance, education, and cultural production, with a strong focus on creating accessible spaces for drag, queer expression, and emerging talent. Cindy’s work positions drag as a social, artistic, and civic practice embedded in the city.

Cindy’s workshop will be a visual exploration of your drag character. You can start from scratch or further explore what you have already created. Through Hair, Make-up, Fashion and body shaping we’ll explore how to bring your drag character to life and discuss techniques on how to do this.  Feel free to bring moodboards, inspiration, costumes, crafting materials, wigs, visuals and/or make-up you already own.
